Competitor Brand Audits

Dogma

We trust pet food companies to provide something safe and nutritious for the animals we love. But when regulations are less stringent and products can go untested, false health claims and poor-quality food can slip through the cracks.

Dogma is a satirical fictitious do food brand that exposes the weakness of the Australian pet food industry. Don’t be fooled by its fun playful energy, we don’t know what’s in the food and we don’t care. The brand uses an intentionally fun design to draw consumers in, before revealing the uncomfortable reality behind the product.

The process

I performed a brand analysis of two popular dog food competitors to identify a gap in the market. This revealed a gap for a mid-tier, playful positioning, which became the foundation for Dogma. From there, I developed the visual identity and packaging considering how typography, colour, imagery, and tone of voice can accompany each other to communicate Dogma’s message.
